I feel very fortunate living in this country and very blessed to have the people around me that I do!!!
When the hurricane left so much disaster I wondered what I could do and the wheels started turning big time, here is the TRUE STORY
I put the word out that I needed a semi with a trailer that the owner was willing to donate his/her time taking donated items to the Gulf. That was
the easy part!!! I contacted BW3's in Marion, Mikes Pizza in Lexington, The Wet Spot in Caledonia and asked them if they would sponsor a drive on
their Bike Nites to get items needed by the Families in the Gulf. That in itself was also easy, they were ready to do what ever it took to make this a
success, BIKERS WITH WINGS!!!
I decided that I would go to the Marion County, Ohio Chapter of the Red Cross and let them know what was planned and ask for THEIR support. I walked
in last week on Tuesday and told them that everything was ready to go, that I just needed a list of items that were needed immediately so that the
media in three counties could let the Biker Community know what, when and where. I never once got to talk to the Marketing Director of the local Red
Cross and was told by the Secretary that they had no use for the items that this drive could collect but if we wanted to have a Fund Raiser and bring
the CASH to them they would take it!!
I could not believe what I was hearing and just looked at the lady and said , "There are NO places for OUR PEOPLE to spend money, they need diapers,
formula, juice, water, wet ones, non perishables and you are telling me that you have no means of distributing these items!!!
I cannot tell you how this saddened me seeing these people that just want the day to day things in life and I am told by what is suppose to be the
most giving organization in our country that they have no use for anything but money.
I ring the bell for the Salvation Army every year and we donate all the food that is left from "JUSTIN'S RUN FOR HOPE" to the Soup Kitchen of the
Salvation Army and they are so grateful of the time you donate and the items they receive, they are the ones that are making sure that people receive
what has been donated.
If you have $$$$ take it to the Red Cross, if you have every day things that we take for granted, take it to the Salvation Army they will make sure
the people receive it!!!!
UNTIL NEXT TIME: God Bless America!!!!!
