KEEL/SHORTINO - Las Vegas, October 5-7
I am excited to be working with one of Rock's finest voices and one of my best friends in the business, ex-Rough Cutt/Quiet Riot frontman Paul
Shortino.
We are joining forces for 3 shows in Las Vegas October 5-7, and plans are underway for more shows and maybe even a recording project together in the
future, as our schedules permit.
Paul and I teamed up to headline the 'Rock 4 Xmas' charity benefit in New York a couple of years ago, sang a duet on the title track of the 'Rock 4
Xmas' CD, and we plan to bring that same chemistry and fun factor to our shows together.
We'll be performing music from all of our various projects and covering some of our all-time favorite classics at these first gigs. Paul's a great
guy, a helluva singer and musician, and this promises to be a lot of fun for us and our fans.

As Mark expected, I couldn't let this thread pass without comment.....
Boss, if the recording project does materialize, I'll be expecting a phone call from you......

Now that would be a good time for a trip to Vegas!
I love Paul's voice on both Rough Cutt albums and the self titled Quiet Riot album he recorded. I think "Run To You" is one of the greatest rock
ballads along with "Calm Before The Storm" and Y&T's "This Time"
Very cool news!

MagicTouch, you also need to track down the Shortino/Northrup album he did back around 1994 entitled "Back On Track". Production's not the greatest
but the songs kick major ass, Paul sounds killer like he always does, and J.K. Northrup tears it up on guitar. Probably the best overall release Paul
ever did.
He also did an album with some German dudes back in 1998 or 1999 under the name Shortino. It's entitled "It's About Time". Again, vintage Paul but
overall the album is only fair.

Thanks for the info!
I've heard of the Shortino/Northrup project but never heard any of the music. I'll look into that.

KEEL/SHORTINO REPORT 9-30-06
Paul arrived in Vegas this morning, and I'm excited about our first rehearsal together here shortly.
BULLETIN: We have added a third night at the Eldorado Casino, Sunday October 8. So here is this week's full peformance schedule & details:
THURSDAY OCTOBER 5 – 8:30 pm:
Roxy’s - Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall
5111 Boulder Highway – Las Vegas, Nevada - (702) 456-7777
FRIDAY/SATURDAY/SUNDAY OCTOBER 6 & 7 – 8 pm:
Tequila Falls – Eldorado Casino
140 Water Street – Henderson, Nevada - (702) 564-1811
This is going to be a blast for us, and for our audiences - there are so many songs between us to draw from. Of course we'll be doing all the KEEL
stuff, and my usual acoustic catalog from "Alone At Last" plus IronHorse music ...and stuff from Paul's Quiet Riot stint like "Stay With Me Tonight",
"I Believe" from The Cutt "Sacred Place" CD, his solo single "Freedom", lots more - plus some of our favorite all-time covers.
I'll let you know how reheasals go. Have a great weekend.

"Reheasal" is how we say it Joisey.
Or it's just "Rehearsal" without the "R".
Speaking of reheasals, they've been going great - today was our third day of sitting around with the acoustic guitars and a couple bottles of wine,
pounding out tunes. JR was witness to some of the magic when I called him out of the blue - and Paul & I let loose with a song called "Don't You
Lie To Me".
I'll let Paul know you put in a request for "Dreaming Again". Good call.

So I was sitting there with some wine of my own, watching "ScarFace" for the billionth time when the phone rings. I look down, and it's The Boss's new
number. Since we had just finished up a long phone rap not three days earlier (during a load-in for one of my gigs--nice timing there, RK!), I
couldn't figure out what he was calling me for. Well, as he mentioned above, I was privileged enough to receive a sneak preview of their upcoming
gigs. Judging by the caterwauling I heard from the other end of the phone, the gigs should kick major ass--sure wish I could see 'em!
Oh, BTW, please inform Paul that he will also need to add "Too Many Pieces" from his BACK ON TRACK album to the set list......and I have many other
good choices for him if he needs them!

SHOW REPORT - KEEL/SHORTINO
Sorry it's taken me so long to report - no, this time it wasn't 'recuperation', but an overwhelming mountain of business that had been put on the
backburner for these REHEASALS & shows.
In fact - believe it or not - neither Paul nor I drank AT ALL during the Eldorado shows, and it turned out to be the best time I've ever had stone
cold sober with all my clothes on.
Paul & I bounced songs and harmonies back and forth like a pro tennis match, and anyone in the audience could tell we were having a great time
together. There was a lot of improvisation, extending solos and feeling our way through the arrangements, jumping straight from song to song. Paul
stole the show, with his voice, personality, and sense of humor - I saw many sides to him these past couple of weeks that most people never see and he
certainly earned my respect and admiration as a musician and as a person.
Shorty is fearless, knows a million songs and every trick in the book to sing & entertain, and neither his pipes nor his attitude ever faltered
for a minute. (Of course RK held his own, also.) We were accompanied on keyboards/vocals/harmonica by our friend Sam 'Secret Weapon' McCaslin for
these shows, much thanks to Sam for joining the party.
After all this, I believe that further KEEL/SHORTINO collaborations are inevitable. We are discussing a lot of possibilities, especially a recording
project together and perhaps more shows, both acoustic perfeormances like this and possibly with a full band behind us.
You'll be the first to know.

Hey Ronnie.....if yall put together a full backup band I know this guy in N. Carolina that could possibly be persuaded to play. Altho I'm not sure if
he knows who Paul Shortino is.
He is alright at his craft. Kinda short tho so ya might have to watch were you
step on stage sometimes. Pretty good stage presence as well.......except for he sometimes wears these bright red and loud tennis shoes on stage. I
think he thinks he is related to *The Flash* when he wears them cause he jets from one side of the stage to the other. LMAO!!!
Still looking for a volume knob with a 12 on it!!
