It's impossible to be objective when you're as close to this music as I am. I chose songs that were both special to me personally AND which I still enjoy listening to.

They did a poll on the old KEEL website a few years ago and ranked the fan's favorite songs, and 'Speed Demon' was #1. I have a love/hate thing with that tune - it was the only KEEL song to be recorded 4 times for 3 seperate albums (US Metal IV, Lay Down The Law, & The Right To Rock). There was also a version recorded by my pre-Steeler band LUST. And I know if there's ever a KEEL reunion, I will be hearing those two words all night during every show...

If there was a 'Best Of', that song would probably have to rear it's ugly head...I would prefer the 'Lay Down The Law' version because it has the best vocal (this is the version that appeared in the movie 'Men In Black II').

LOL, I didn't realize ya felt so negative about that song. It totally blew me away when I saw it in MIB II. I was like, "holy sh*t!! I know that song!" But, I can understand getting tired of a tune. I played in bands for a bit, and some of the songs we played got old too, and some I never liekd to begin with, but ya gotta play them when the fans (or other band members) do like them.

Hey Ace, I don't feel 'so negative' about the tune...keep in mind, LOVE is 50% of love/hate...

Ask me this question on 10 different days, and I will probably have 10 different replies.....
As of today, my top ten favorite Keel song's are, in no particular order:

1) The Right To Rock
2) Back To The City
3) Somebody's Waiting
4) Tears Of Fire
5) Arm & A Leg
6) If Love Is A Crime...
7) 'Till Hell Freezes Over
8) Lay Down The Law
9) United Nations
10) Electric Love

Umm, can't leave out the "Bonus Track"
11) Rock-N-Roll Animal

"Somebody's Waiting" has a nostalgic place with me, as I think it was the first KEEL song I ever really heard. Then I ended up playing it about 500 times over the next year in a band.

Of course, I already owned the STEELER album by then.....

And we can't forget "No Pain, No Gain".

Maybe we need a KEEL boxset with videos and music, or a Ron Keel boxset with music and videos spanning his musical career...
What does everyone else think?

there are way to many good KEEL songs to list. But I must say that a few stick out more than the others. Maybe it is because I hear them differently than what is on the CD's. For instance...take the first 26 seconds from the begining of United Nations and put it in front of Somebodys Waiting. But I also thought that Follow Your Heart should have made the cut for the IH CD (first time I heard it in the studio and still.....Ronnie knows why ;) )

Yea I know , I know.....my screwed up head does this sort of thing all the time :P

Still workin on MY list tho ;)

Still looking for a volume knob with a 12 on it!!

I would certainly have to say the Calm Before the Storm, in my opinion, is Keel's best ballad. It certainly brings back many "good" memories for me during my teen years!

I've been on a Keel kick lately. Was jamming Lay Down the Law and The Right To Rock today. In particular, on Lay Down the Law "Till Hell Freezes Over"... wow, what a great song! I always forget about that one until I listen to the album. Man, those lyrics are so poignant to me right now. It really hit home. :( Gonna play s/t and Final Frontier next. Man, so many fond memories...

Indeed! It brings back such awesome memories, too. It's such a shame they never achieved the kind of success of some of their peers with lesser talent (and I'll be nice and leave out names, lol.) They had such a unique sound and some incredible songs. Of course, the same can be said of Ironhorse, too, though, lol.

I think we gonna need at least 15 songs for a best of album. Even 20 isn't enough. Here's my selection:
1) Lay Down The Law
2) Till Hell Freeze's Over
3) Tonight You're Mine
4) Speed Demon
5) The Right To Rock
6) Get Down
7) Easier Said Than Done
8) Rock And Roll Animal
9) Arm And A Leg
10) Raised On Rock
11) Rock And Roll Outlaw
12) If Love Is A Crime (I Wanna Be Convicted)
13) 4th Of July
14) I Said The Wrong Thing To The Right Girl
15) Riding High
16) Hard As Hell
17) Back In Action
18) Reason To Rock
19) Proud To Be Loud
20) Friday Every Night
