This disc will be released by Majestic Rock Records - http://www.majesticrock.com - in Japan on June 27 & Europe on June 29. No official domestic release is impending, but it will be also be available at http://ronkeel.com and at all my shows after it is released.

Kathy, you don't have THIS cd, you got the original one...this one is unreleased tracks, outtakes, live tracks, demos, stuff that was released on vinyl but never on CD, and 1 new recording (the new acoustic version of 'Serenade').

This release is interesting for a couple of reasons to me...there is the obvious historical value of having the Steeler history immortalized on disc, from the very first single with the original lineup to the final recordings just weeks before the formation of KEEL. There is obviously the appeal of the rare live tracks featuring Yngwie, although the recording quality is very rough on these particular cuts. And there is the opportunity to hear me learn to sing - I go from 'suck' to 'suck worse' (the original lineup & the live tracks) to 'screaming' (the final recordings) to 'all grown up' (the new version of 'Serenade').

I'm sure a lot of 80's metal fans will enjoy it for these and a variety of reasons, and I'm glad to be working with a great label like Majestic Rock who are taking care of business and doing everything right. I'll post album cover graphics and other stuff here as it becomes available.

Steeler were pretty awesome. The original with Ron and Yngwie is the one I listen to the most, obviously, but the later releases are pretty solid too. Axel Rudi Pell took over the guitar chores, but I'm not 100% about the singer. Anyone?

Do you know what the price will be? Being an import I would imagine it's gonna be a little high, but will the price here be a little lower or about the same? I'm pretty jazzed about this, with the unreleased stuff and all. I didn't know about this until recently when the new board opened. I'll pay whatever for it, I'm sure, though, lol.

I am quite anxious to get my hands on this release too!! Would love to hear the newer version of "Serenade". Is it anything like what you would tease us with at the shows??

I don't know what the price will be. I imagine like any release, it will depend on where you buy it - some sites and stores are more expensive than others. I'll let you know when I find out more.

The new acoustic version of 'Serenade' is very special to me - it is similar to the way I've been performing it at my acoustic shows the past few years (and like when IH used it as a 'tease'), but the guitar parts are much more intricate and difficult on the session than anything I could pull off live. I recorded it entirely alone, and blended different tones, some tracks fingerpicked, and for the solo and fills I combined a little bit of everything, from classical-style harmonies to a funky little slide guitar section. I took five days to cut the song, and really got as self-indulgent as I wanted to, intertwining the various acoustic guitar parts. The solo alone took 5 hours.

The vocal is not the horrendous falsetto-style of the original, but a grown-up 'man' sound (an octave lower than the original) that builds from a whisper at the beginning to a scream at the end. I took some liberties with the melody as well, but I am very proud of the results and this song alone redeems the poor quality of some of the other vocals on this disc...as they say, all's well that ends well, and though I wish I would have had more vocal knowledge and control 'back in the day' I'm glad I finally learned how to sing...

I'm trying to use the 'quote' function for the first time...

These are two different bands! There is no affiliation between my Steeler and the other one...we owned the US trademark. I don't think either band stole the name from the other - we got it from a Judas Priest song...

Ah, I didn't know that! I always assumed (and we know how that goes) that it was just the next generation or something. You ever listen to any of their stuff? Pell is similiar to Yngwie in a lot of respects. I dig his solo stuff, but mostly because Jeff Scott Soto sings with him a lot (or used to) and he's another singer I rank pretty high on my list of favs. I had no clue they were not of the same origins though. Learn something new every day. :D

Never heard their music. Jeff is one helluva singer though, and a great guy.

He's definitely one helluva singer. Haven't had the privilege to meet him though. I would love it if he would come to NC with maybe Soul Sirkus. He certainly seems like a great guy though. You two ever recorded together or anything?

I was fortunate to hear you live WAY back in the day Mr. Keel, and somehow completely missed the "suck" and "suck worse" period of your career.
Can't wait to hear this.

Thank you Lilith...I know I am hyper-critical of my work, but I have to be honest and objective. I now have a huge body of work, from 'Lay Down The Law' to the present day, that I am very pleased with and proud of...I only wish that I had been able to harness the good qualities of my voice a little sooner and combine them with the power and range that I used when I sang with Steeler.

By the way everyone: The track listing has changed just a little bit, and there are a couple of other details to explain, so I'll start a new thread for that.
