This is Brad from Columbus Ohio, I have been listening to
alot of Steeler & watching the old KEEL videos alot
of late. I really love the old days of great metal.

I remember reading one time that you did a brief stint
with Sabbath and recorded some songs with them. 3 Songs
were recorded that you sang on with Tony & the boys.
I was just wondering what ever happened to those tracks
and if they will ever surface for the fans to enjoy one day?

Hey, & welcome to the Forums!

The infamous 'Black Sabbath' demo is one of my best-kept secrets...I have it on cassette, and have been meaning to preserve it digitally but haven't gotten around to it it. In fact, I haven't played it in years and hope the music is still stuck to the tape...

And it was not Tony etc playing on the session - these were songs the producer had selected for Sabbath to record, and my voice on the demo was what got me the gig (briefly), but Sabbath didn't appreciate the producer shoving outside material down their throats and trying to make them something they weren't, so the deal went south and unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) I went south with it.

I think these tracks are best kept private. The vocals, which were produced by Dana Strum of Slaughter, were cool, though - WAY over the top, many of those old trademark high screams held out as long as I could hold them, many vocal acrobatics trying to show off.

I have often wanted to record some vintage Sabbath material and include it on one of my albums. I actually contacted Ronnie James Dio about licensing 'Heaven & Hell' for my new solo album but the paperwork did not get done in time for my deadline...maybe next time. I have been known to include a little 'Heaven & Hell/War Pigs' medley in my solo shows, and IronHorse will be adding this to our shows this summer also.

Gotta share this story about that particular tape........We all met at RKs house for a road trip of gigs and as some know he has a pet named CAT. CAT is a big ole spider as big as your fist!! We found that tape in RKs collection and he grabbed it and threw it in Cats cage knowing damn well none of us was goin in after it!!! DAMNIT!!

It's true - when company comes over, I put the Black Sabbath demo in the tarantula habitat and no one is ever willing to stick their hand in there and retrieve it.

No, especially if the monster spider has been listening to it, he might not want to give it back.

That would explain the ear buds and why CAT runs over and sits on top of it!!!

Oddly enough, during our first appearance at the Lone Star Biker Bash in 2003, we went and hung out at a CD shop owned by some friends of his and for some reason, Ron brought the cassette with him and actually played a bit of it for us on the boombox in the store......and nobody but me was paying much attention which I thought was odd considering how badly everyone has said they want to hear it. Oh well, we were all deep in some ****tails at that point.

Anyhow, I remember one song very clearly entitled "The Hunger". It featured some of the most insane banshee-like vocals, particularly during the outro. However the other songs were all very cheesy, lite-metal and were about as far from the Sabbath style as you could get. If memory serves, I believe the band playing on the demo was Axe ("Rock and Roll Party In The Streets").

That day, Ron promised me he would play the whole thing for me at some point in the future--knowing the Sabbath freak I am. So far, it hasn't happened yet but I still have hope.

JR, it was Kick Axe you are thinking of. King Kobra also recorded The Hunger and W.A.S.P. used one of the other tracks/music.

Who's H.Banger? He's credited for Hunger. He was with Spencer Proffer in some capacity , he had songs on almost every lp Proffer produced.

I bet Ron kicked ass on those songs.

H. Banger, huh? As in HEAD Banger? Sure sounds like a psuedonym that Proffer thought up for himself.

You may be right, but i think Proffers names appear in the song credits as well.Might be a name used to protect someone under contract somwhere else?

I figured it was Head Banger, just wondered if someone knew who it was .I always thought that was funny.

OK so heres some more 80's metal history on your "the hunger" song..

When and after Kick Axe recorded the basic tracks they decieded to release this song under the band name "Spectre General" due to legalites and such they were unable to use there name "Kick axe" the song was included on the Transformers the movie sound track from 1986. Its a killer cut of the song.

Any how I would LOVE TO HEAR MR KEEL SING THIS SONG its totally a rippin song. maybe some day.

Gee I thought I was the only one who had that soundtrack or even listened to obscure 80's metal stuff. How bout Lion writing the theme song to The Transformers movie?? Kinda wild W/ Doug Aldrich on guitar.

Or how bout Stan Bush with "The Touch??" (same song that was used in the movie "Boogie nights" w/ Mark Wahlberg during the scene when there singing in studio..hahahahaha)

Yeah, i bought it for ther Lion track.Huge Doug Aldrich fan for years.

As for the Bush song, there was no way to tell they are the same song since they butcher the hell out of it in boogie nights,lol
