RycheQuest--a benefit show

It's that time of year again!!! RycheQuest 2007 will be in Illinois this time around..the past 2 years it had been held in Va. Beach, but we are branching out. The venue for RQ07 will be ................

Papa T's
4660 W. 147th Street.
Midlothian , Ill.
July 21st, 2007 time TBA

There will be no cover charge for the event so if you are in Chicago, live near Chicago, or just feel like taking a vacation to Chicago...come on down! This is the 3rd annual event and we have taken it on the road!

http://www.myspace.com/rychequest is where you can get info on the past 2 RycheQuest events and the current one...

RycheQuest is where a group of Queensryche fans and their respective empires (sub-groups of the main fan club) get together some bands who volunteer their time and while playing their own material learn 1-2 Queensryche songs and play. Usually we have a tribute band stand in and be Queensryche for the night...the 1st year we had Prophecy out of L.A. and last year we had Scarz Within from Virginia Beach. We are supposed to have Silent Lucidity out of Chicago this year. We select a charity and all the money raised from ticket sales and the raffle foes directly to teh charity...no a single profit is made!

thought you guys would like to know a little about the charity that we selected to be the recipient of RycheQuest 2007: Greenhouse Shelter

In 2002, Greenhouse Shelter served over 715 women and children. In addition to basic needs - safe refuge, food and clothing - Greenhouse provides a supportive, non-violent environment, and around-the-clock services which include: individual, group, and Illinois Domestic Violence Act counseling, individual and group substance abuse counseling; advocacy and referrals to housing and job training. All CAWC services are based on a philosophy of self-help and independence.

Greenhouse programs significantly enhance a woman's ability to establish independence from her abuser. Residents are encouraged to set their own goals and are provided with assistance in long term planning. We provide legal advocacy including guidance and referral to initiate separation from batterers, assistance with custody cases, divorce proceedings, acquiring orders of protection and filing police reports, or if practical, securing a commitment from their partner to end abuse and to seek counseling. Stays at Greenhouse are limited to 120 days during which time residents are encouraged and advised in restructuring their lives, finding affordable and secure housing, employment and child care. Greenhouse staff promotes the development of residents' life-skills with in-services such as diet & nutrition, budget planning and effective parenting skills.

Greenhouse also addresses the effects of domestic violence on children through intensive programming and counseling. A child's suffering begins as witness and, in some cases, as subjects of abuse. For children, the transitional period when their mother leaves an abusive relationship adds further turmoil as they leave behind friends, school and possessions. Mothers often arrive at Greenhouse with children dressed only in pajamas and wrapped in blankets.

CAWC recognizes and responds to the individual needs of our clients with culturally and linguistically sensitive service provision. Our multi-ethnic staff and volunteers provide service in many languages including: English, French, Polish, Spanish, Portugese, Urdu, Arabic Ukrainian, as well as American Sign Language. Moreover, Greenhouse is accessible to wheelchairs or physically disabled clients and provides TTY service for hearing impaired hotline callers.

All services are free and confidential.

they also have a list of items for a wish list that we would try to organize in collecting

Over 60% of Greenhouse residents are children fleeing domestic violence with their mothers. Greenhouse residents often walk away from everything they own when they leave abusive relationships. Mothers often arrive in the night with their children wrapped only in blankets.

If I still lived in my beloved Chi-Town I'd definitely be there. Unfortunately....

Midlothian....ha! Those were the days. Lived in Crestwood (right down the street) for a year and a half.
