New Fair Game Forum Launched

Welcome to the new Ron Keel Message Forums - Please Bookmark this page and add it to your favorites.

I want to thank Karen at Rock N Roll Access for doing such a great job building these forums. I want to thank Mark & Joy Hypes who built and maintained the IronHorse forum these past few years, and hope that they and all the fans will hang out here with me as we have in the past.

There are individual forums for all of my projects, and there is a lot going on with IronHorse, KEEL & WAYNE, KEEL, and Steeler. Other projects such as Fair Game, The Rat'lers, and Saber Tiger will most likely remain in my past history (although I've learned to NEVER say never) - but they are still topics of discussion among fans of my work, so therefore they all have their individual place in the new Message Forums.

So if you have a question or want to talk about Fair Game, this is the place. Thanks in advance for hanging out and participating in the new Message Forums, enjoy your visits here!

I could write a book about this project...I'll save most of that for the the forthcoming BIO pages at ronkeel.com, but I can answer some of your questions.

As to WHY I formed a band with female musicians: If there's one common thread that runs through my career, it's that I like to do DIFFERENT things rather than repeating myself over and over again. All of my projects and bands have been unique and have their own identity and style. FAIR GAME was my first band after KEEL broke up, and I felt that if I could put together a band that combined my voice and stage persona with a group of hot female musicians who could play their asses off, I just might make history. I had worked with Joan Jett, written for Vixen, was friends with Lita, and always liked to see chicks rock.

Last I heard, Stephanie & Tina were playing in a 'Budweiser Girls' promotional band out in LA; Janna is reportedly still playing in some hardcore metal bands, and I spoke to Eva a few times in the last few years...she is in her native Detroit playing with a band called Stun Gun. There were several drummers after Steph departed, including Tommy Lee's sister Athena.

That band was an unforgettable experience (I know what you're thinking)...the girls really brought a power and a passion to the music and I was at one of my peaks in terms of singing and songwriting. The FAIR GAME music is some of the best vocals and songs of my career, and the sessions were also played well and produced well, at Sound City in LA.

Actually, FAIR GAME never recorded an album. What was released a couple of years ago as "Beauty & The Beast" is a collection of the demos we laid down between 1990-1992, and a couple of songs from a movie soundtrack we did for a film called 'Bad Channels' (all of you who've seen the movie, gimme a break - at least the MUSIC was good) while we were attempting to get a record deal. Unfortunately, the industry was not receptive to Melodic Hard Rock OR female musicians by that time, and we had both strikes against us - therefore, the band never received the recognition I felt it deserved. It was a great concept, and we all worked very hard in that band and fought a lot of adversity to deliver some excellent shows and the 8 songs that remain are a testament to all that.

I appreciate the compliments on this release, thanks...and these songs remain active in my repertoire - IronHorse actually did "Street Of Broken Dreams" at one time, and "The Time Of My Life" is a staple in all of my acoustic performances.
